東北大学からなにやらすごいプレスリリース。
「母型からスタンパー複製できる新方式V溝ピット方位多値記録の原理実証（9倍密度）に成功」
CD-ROM, DVD-ROM に、従来の9倍の情報量を記録できるのだそうです。
記録する溝を V 字型にして、1ピットに記録できる情報量を1ビット→9ビットに増やす、というのが今回発表された技術のポイント。
それだけ光のピックアップの精度が高くなったということなのです。
DVD の9倍なら、十分ブルーレイに対抗できてしまいます。
でも、こういうのって技術だけでは解決できない大きな山が沢山ありますからね。
HD DVD が負けたのも、技術の話ではなかったわけだし。
ともあれ、早くも次世代の DVD 戦争が幕開けしたというのは間違いなさそうです。
ブルーレイは果たして何年保つのだろう？
